President Obama/Trump/DACA

Here's President Obama's statement about Trump's decision to repeal the DACA program ...

More from The Atlanitc: The Economic Senselessness of President Trump’s DACA Repeal

President Donald Trump has decided to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, an executive action that protected from deportation more than 800,000 “Dreamers,” undocumented immigrants who came to the country as children.

In a statement, the president said that the Obama initiative led to a “massive surge [of] young people who would become members of violent gangs throughout our country.” Revoking DACA, he went on, was necessary to ensure “safe communities, a robust middle class, and economic fairness for all Americans.”

The president’s statement makes it sound like Dreamers are often violent members of society who, even when they’re not committing crimes, are busy stealing native-born Americans’ jobs and draining scarce government resources. The facts, however, paint a starkly different picture .....

I guess this is another example of Trump trying to appeal to his dwindling supporters, a group that seems to embody some of the worst aspects of human nature - selfishness, ignorance, and malice.

What I get really tired of are the people who keep saying "But they're illegal!" Like it was a mantra. It was a big bait and switch. The Dreamers gave the government their information, after being promised that they wouldn't be deported. Now the information will be used against them.

Hopefully Congress will fix it - I saw that Schumer and Pelosi and other Democrats are truing to get something together. Maybe the Republicans will be shamed into doing the right thing.
