Hi Crystal, There is a wonderful 1973 essay by Isaac Asimov on just this topic, i.e. the durability of the book format, entitled, "The Ancient and the Ultimate", it can be found in his essay collection "The Tragedy of the Moon". Sadly and perhaps ironically, though often referenced, my quick google search revealed no electronic versions.
