Keith Ward / materialism

Here's a video of "The Boyle Lecture - Misusing Darwin: The Materialist Conspiracy in Evolutionary Biology" by Keith Ward (in church?) ..... it's better than the title makes it sound - he speaks to the erroneous belief that science and religion are incompatible ......

Crystal,

Absolute hokum. Raise some questions about what science knows and then because we do not have answers, say that proves God. Nothing but bad Christian apologetics. Clever but very transparent. We all know that science depends on certain assumtions---regularity---for example. But to say science makes assumptions, ergo that proves something about religion---Ward's basic argument---is ridiculous. Jack

Jack,

You've done better than me at following what he said :) I think he didn't mean that that proved God existed, but that that the question of God's exostence is not a science quuestion, so can't be disproved in that way?

Crystal, you are so open minded. I appreciate that.

Butin response to your comment: He his trying to say "Since you cannot prove that God does NOT exist through science, that is an argument for His existence." In other words if A (Science can prove everything is material) is not provable then B (there is a "spiritual reality")must be true. The lack of proof for A, does nothing to prove B. An old fallacy, fancied up by Ward.

Or to put it another way: Since you cannot prove God does NOT exist, HE exists. Jack

I agree he's not presenting a good argument for God's existence, it's just that I think he isn't so much trying to do that as to refute many scientist's assumption that if science can't show God exists, that means he doesn't. But actually I'm sure I really did understand what he said.

I know of no scientists who argue that because they can't prove God exists that means he doesn't. Jack
